Position Overview

Sysco Oklahoma, a leading foodservice distribution company, is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our culinary team in Norman, Oklahoma. In this entry-level role, you will support the operations of our test kitchen and culinary center by maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary environment. Key Responsibilities

Wash, sanitize, and dry dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using dishwashers or by hand to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Sweep, mop, and maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, counters, work surfaces, and storage areas, including proper waste disposal and recycling.

Assist with basic food preparation tasks, such as portioning ingredients, chopping vegetables, or organizing supplies as directed by culinary staff.

Support test kitchen operations by rotating products, restocking supplies, and monitoring inventory levels to prevent shortages.

Maintain the overall organization and appearance of the culinary facility, including laundry services for linens and towels.

Follow Sysco's food safety protocols, including proper handling of perishable items and adherence to HACCP guidelines.

Occasionally assist with setup and cleanup for internal/external culinary events or demonstrations.

Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors promptly.

Qualifications and Requirements

No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided. Previous experience in a kitchen, warehouse, or foodservice environment is a plus.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks in a humid, fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a positive team-oriented attitude.

Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices; willingness to obtain ServSafe certification if needed.

Must be authorized to work in the United States and pass a background check.

Requirements:

  • The sanitation associate keep the work site clean and free of debris
  • You will learn both sanitation and pallet sorting best practices within a warehouse facility, working alone or in teams with minimal supervision
  • Work with a high level of direct contact with customer's staff and outside delivery personnel; emphasis is placed on the ability to relate in a positive, friendly manner
  • Assigned to specified areas within work environment to maintain consistent workflow and meet customer expectations

  • Lift and carry a minimum of up to 25-75lbs, materials handled vary
  • Handling of pallets as directed by Capstone management and customer, meeting company standards, customer time lines and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Keeps Site Supervisor and Manager informed regarding conditions on the dock, accomplishments and concerns; contributes suggestions for improvements
  • Flexible work schedule due to changing operational needs
  • Sit or stand for periods in office as well as warehouse environment (concrete flooring and changing temperatures)
